It's nice to hear from you again, and yes, I can sympathize with your situation. I hope you and I can stay in touch so we can get together the next time you're in Hastings. I hope all is well in Virginia; Nebraska is hot.

Anonymous, thank you for the kind comment and the suggestion on identifying the artwork and photography. Some of the photos are mine; the art is gathered from hither and yon. I will make a concerted effort to offer a "credits" addendum at the end of each reflection.

Your reflections are always thought provoking. Thanks also for pulling together so many different strands in the fabric of our lives and challenging us to see the connections, in light of the Gospels. I also love the art work you include... many works I recognize (VanGogh, Chagal) but others I would enjoy knowing the artist or source. Any way to post that info as an addendum?

Hi Dan,
You are writing this week (and most weeks!) where my heart is, always always. And even though I find various ways to preach a gospel of God's sustainable abundance, it can be a maddeningly fine line to not sound as if I do not know how very much these people do give, share, conserve and simply practice radical hospitality. For me, at the end of the day, the larger, global picture is of a world interconnected in ways most folk would find mind boggling (I certainly do) and yet, for millions of hungry folk, our cars are weapons of mass destruction and our well watered lawns are planes of human sorrow. Which means I end up believing public policy is something I must take on as a matter of spiritual formation.

Thanks so much for your comment Bill. I've always been a little uncomfortable with the miracles in the New Testament -- I never know what to make of them. And to think that next week we're looking at Jesus walking on water!

I wanted also to let you know how impressed I am with your watercolors on your blog. What a great way to keep track of your day-to-day experiences. I wish I had your talent! I will continue to check in now and then to see what you have been painting.

Thanks for your thoughts about miracles. I always stumble over the miraculous aspect of this story, even though I love the story itself.

Also, I appreciate you addressing the problem of biofuels and the resulting increase in world food prices. Really makes me think.
